Eora Plaza was a multi-level public design project in the centre of the CBD. This group project required us to analyse "What makes Sydney, Sydney" and create a three level plaza which reflects our ideas.
The absence of Aboriginal representation and acknowledgment is common in Sydney's culture so we designed a plaza to celebrate and uplift the traditional owners of the land. Organic shapes and large poles that symbolize contemporary Aboriginal Burial Poles: the "Spirit vessels” that hint at the existence of ancestral energy that Aboriginals believe permeates all things. The result is a celebration of life.

The Basement 1 level is a concourse with ample space for seamless foot traffic flow. Basement 2 is a multipurpose function space with a cafe and Aboriginal art displayed throughout.

The glazed glass openings descending from the plaza level provide natural light throughout the basement levels. The materiality is earthy, warm, and neutral to uplift the aboriginal art and features seen throughout the design.
My original sketches included ideas of having large iron arches reminiscent of aboriginal dot painting. This would create shadows and allow for sunlight to penetrate all around the plaza. The idea of having large OLED panels that displayed, uplifted, and educated people on aboriginal culture was also part of my initial idea for the space.
